Learn to Take a Hit

Taking a good hit is a skill that can take a bit of practice. Begin by selecting your favorite herb, and loading it into your pipe. Hold the pipe close to your mouth and exhale to the side of your pipe until you have empty lungs. Then place your mouth over the pipe and draw air through it, lighting your herb at the same time. Inhale gently until your lungs are about half full, then release the carb and inhale a bit harder, clearing the pipe. Hold in the smoke for as long as possible, then release. There, you've just taken a great hit!

Some tips:

• Inhale as if your parents just walked into the room.

• If hitting a bong, fill the bong with smoke, exhale, then inhale the hit.

• Don't take too big a hit, you could end up swallowing smoke. That's bad.

• Take the local customs into account; some people take two hits, then pass, others less/more.

• Always use a glass piece if you have a choice.
