Sledge hammer

A Sledge Hammer is a slang term for a drink laced with a sedative, such as a barbiturate that is usually given in a bar to a woman by a man with the intent to rape her. The act of being knocked out by the drink is commonly referred to as being sledgehammered.

Origin

The name comes from the feeling you get after being hit with a sledgehammer, which is extremely groggy and light on your feet. It was frequently distributed by L.A. bartenders, who commonly named it the Bloody Hammer. Bartenders stopped distributing the drink after there were reports of rape caused by the drink. Men began lacing the drinks independently, calling it the Sledge Hammer because of its massive knockout effects in women. It is now outlawed and highly illegal to carry with you sedatives in a bar with the intent to lace a drink.

How to Avoid Being 'Sledge Hammered'

-Say "No" to offered drinks and get one yourself to make sure.

-Pay attention to the color of the drink, as the color may change if Sledge Hammered.

-Do not let your drink out of sight, as the man may slip a pill in it.

-Finish your drink quick so the man does not have the chance of lacing your drink.

-Your tongue can be your guide. If you think the taste of your drink is off, stop drinking and spit it out.

-Spill the drink he brought you on "accident" and go get another, or refuse his offer to get you another.

If Sledgehammered

If you feel groggy after your drink you may have been sledgehammered. If with friends stick with them throughout the whole night avoiding the man who offered you the drink. If extremely groggy try to alert authorities quickly on a cell phone before your motor functions wear out. Stay away from the man and try to leave in a crowd as to make a rape attempt nearly impossible.

Be Aware

Women need to be cautious of strangers offering drinks or food as they may be laced or poisoned in some way. Always excercise extreme vigilance when alone in a bar.
